Praised by The Washington Post for having “a lustrous voice supple enough for the delicate innuendos and intimate inflections of the solo song, yet also capable of projecting the dramatic vigor necessary for the opera house,” soprano Meri Siirala has performed in France, Norway, Switzerland, and Canada as well as in Washington, D.C., at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Phillips Collection, the National Gallery of Art, the National Portrait Gallery, the Corcoran, the Embassy Series, Norwegian Embassy, and several times at the Finnish Embassy. Meri made her operatic debut as Queen of the Night in a highly acclaimed production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute with Pori Opera Company, Finland. Her repertoire encompasses styles from baroque music to contemporary, from opera to art song and musical theater. She also collaborates with and performs works by several contemporary composers, including Kaija Saariaho and Olli Kortekangas. She has performed for Joe Biden, Vice President of the United States of America, Tarja Halonen, President of Finland, and King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. Meri graduated with a Masters in Music, receiving the highest grade from the Opera Department of the Sibelius Academy. She has been awarded several awards and grants by various organizations, including the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Pro Musica Foundation, and Arts Promotion Center, Finland.
Known for her extensive vocal range, mezzo-soprano Elise Christina Jenkins has charmed audiences in repertoire ranging from opera and art song to operetta. Most recently, she joined The In Series for their Operetta Wonderland: The Magic of Victor Herbert. A frequent performer with Opera NOVA, she sang the role of Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Monisha in Scott Joplin’s Treemonisha, and in various outreach programs and recitals. Other operatic roles include Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, and Maman in L'enfant et les sortilèges, as well as the partial role of Waltraute in Wagner’s Die Walküre and La Badessa in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with the JMU’s German Opera Experience in Freiberg. Elise made her Italian debut in the Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival in Mairoi performing scenes from Mozart’s Così fan tutte and she later returned to Italy to sing Madre Maria in Francis Poulenc’s I dialoghi delle Carmelitane for La Musica Lirica’s International Music Festival in Novafeltria. As an oratorio soloist, Elise was invited to sing Handel’s Messiah at the Korean United Methodist Church of Koinonia for their Christmas Eve service with chamber orchestra under the baton of Dr. In Dal Choi. She received her Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from George Mason University and she currently studies with Mr. Russell Penney. Elise cantors regularly at Old Presbyterian Meeting House in Alexandria, VA.
Soprano Madeline Huss is a recent graduate of the Peabody Institute, earning her master’s degree in vocal performance and music theory pedagogy. She is currently pursuing a graduate performance diploma in vocal performance at Peabody, to be completed this spring. In Peabody Opera productions, she performed Soldier in The Falling and the Rising, Sukey in Sukey in the Dark, covered and performed Adina in L’elisir d’amore, and performed in Bernstein and Friends scenes. Also through Peabody Opera, she performed an opera outreach program that she created with colleague Rachel Sandler called "Where in the World is Opera?" She sang the role of Miss Titmouse in Too Many Sopranos with Little Patuxent Opera Institute in 2017. She was a soloist in Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem with Peabody Concert Orchestra and chorus under the direction of Edward Polochick in 2016. Madeline has been a vocalist in nine world premieres, including an opera scene, art song, and chamber ensembles, and she will perform in three more opera scene premiers through Peabody Opera's Opera Etudes this April. She currently studies with Ah Hong.
Soprano Jennifer Piazza-Pick has been active in oratorio, concerts, choral music, and opera in the United States and Europe. She was a member of the House Chorus at the Nationaltheater Mannheim in Mannheim, Germany for five years, where she performed in over 50 different productions. She has also performed with Ithaca Opera, Long Beach Opera, Pacific Chorale, Cincinnati Opera, Opera Theater of Lucca, Opera Piccola of San Antonio, Alamo City Ballet, San Antonio Chamber Choir, the Princeton Festival, the Dallas Choral Festival, the Virginia Chorale, Richmond Ballet, and the Oregon Bach Festival. An advocate of American music, Ms. Piazza-Pick has premiered works by many American composers, including three premieres for the Composers Alliance of San Antonio’s spring concert, featuring the poetry of San Antonio’s poet laureate, Camen Tafolla. Ms. Piazza-Pick is the winner of Hawaii Public Radio’s art song contest, the George Cortes Award for Classical Singing by the Artist Foundation of San Antonio and was a finalist for the American Prize in the women’s art song division. She has been an adjunct instructor at Trinity University, University of the Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake University, Virginia State University, and the University of Richmond. Currently a D.M.A. student at the University of Maryland, College Park, Ms. Piazza-Pick earned her M.M. in Voice performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her B.M. in Music Education and Voice Performance from Ithaca College.
Adam Cooley is a Baltimore based actor with theatre credits that include performances with Stillpointe Theatre, Iron Crow Theatre, Creative Alliance, and multiple one-man shows at Ottobar, Germano's, and Alchemy of Art. New York credits include Radio City Music Hall, Feinstein's at the Regency, Manhattan Children's Theater, Cindy Shurin Theater, and the Secret Theater. He has performed regionally at Signature Theater, Merry Go Round Playhouse, Central Piedmont Summer Theater, North Carolina Theater, Schoolhouse Theater, Studios of Key West, among others, as well as on the national tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Multiple TV/film credits include Wedding Crashers, Law and Order, Meet Dave, the local webseries Thespian, Basura: Long and Hard, and the upcoming Red Woods.
Erin has appeared on Broadway as Mrs. Nordstrom in the Tony nominated revival of A Little Night Music starring Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, and Catherine Zeta-Jones, directed by Sir Trevor Nunn, where she also performed the roles of Anne and Charlotte. Erin made her Broadway debut with The Phantom of the Opera and performed the role of Christine Dae in the Broadway National Tour and the Las Vegas Phantom. Regional credits include Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady (Gretna Theatre), Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls (The New Harmony Theatre), Anne in A Little Night Music (Opera Cleveland), Guinevere in Camelot (Arts Center of Coastal Carolina), Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Maria in West Side Story, and the title role in Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella. Erin was the soprano soloist with the Omaha Symphony in their "Christmas Spectacular" and was the soprano soloist in a world premiere presented by American Opera Projects at Zankel Hall. Erin has been a frequent soloist with members of the Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, appearing at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and Symphony Space. Erin will be performing this summer as a soloist with The Finger Lakes Chamber Music Festival.
David appeared as Monsieur Reyer in the Broadway National Tour of The Phantom of the Opera, where he toured most of the United States and much of Canada for nearly eight years. He also appeared as Gus in the Broadway National Tour of Cats, Webber in The Last Empress at Lincoln Center, and as Javert in Les Miserables at Northern Stage. In 2016 David starred as Nate in Newton’s Cradle with the New York Musical Festival directed by Tony award winning actress/director Victoria Clark. Film and TV credits include the Make-up Artist in Woody Allen's Sweet and Lowdown, Michael in Under Shelter, Oscar in Outside the Window, Rusty in King's Day Out and Michael and Sammy in the Mary Tyler Moore TV series, New York News. In addition to being an actor, David is also an accomplished painter, illustrator, writer and director. He produced, directed and edited the short film Dear Mr. Spielberg, which was screened at the Sundance Festival. His writing and directing skills have been showcased in multiple works performed at the West End Theatre in New York City. He currently writes a monthly column on fatherhood for Country Wisdom.
Dr. Min Jin, tenor, has delighted audiences with his concert and opera performances throughout Korea and the U.S. His virtuoso singing has taken him to many of the major concert halls throughout the Metropolitan area such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a recitalist, opera performer, as well as an oratorio soloist with choral societies. His opera performances include the leading tenor roles in La bohème, Rigoletto, Carmen, Otello, La Rondine, Lucia di Lammermoor, Roméo et Juliette, L’elisir d’amore, Manon, Werther, and several other roles with the New Jersey State Opera, Ann Arbor Opera, Aspen Opera, Rochester Mercury Opera, Dicapo Opera, NY Touring Opera, Academic Opera, Mannes Opera, Eastman Opera, PoHang Opera and Kwangju City Opera. As a soloist, he has performed with numerous regional orchestras on the East Coast and the Midwest. Concert credits include Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings, Haydn’s Creation and The Seasons, Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, Dubois’s The Seven Last Words of Christ, Mendelssohn’s St. Paul and Elijah, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Mass in C Major, and his Symphony No. 9, among others. Mezzo-soprano Christianne Rushton has delighted audiences with her engaging presence and versatility on both the operatic and concert stages. Dr. Rushton is a first prize winner of the Canadian National Music Festival, a prize winner at the prestigious Eckhardt-Gramatté Competition, a two-time grant recipient from the Canada Council for the Performing Arts, and a winner of the Canada Council’s Bernard Diamant Prize in Voice. In recital, she has been a guest artist for the Royal Society of Canada, toured with Debut Atlantic, performed at the Indian River Festival, recorded with the Canadian Chamber Choir, sung with Baltimore Musicales and debuted at New York’s Alice Tully Hall. Highlights of Christianne’s numerous operatic roles have included Orpheus in Orpheus ed Euridice (Opera Nova Scotia), the title role in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges (Juilliard Opera Center), Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera North), and Filotete in the North American premiere and Italian revival (Spoleto) of Handel’s Oreste (Juilliard Opera Center). Christianne is Associate Professor at Acadia University where she is head of vocal studies and Director of the School of Music. She is a graduate of the Juilliard Opera Center at The Juilliard School and completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from SUNY Stony Brook. She recently received an Emerging Leader Award, from the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) for her innovation and success teaching voice. Dr. Rushton is President of two arts organizations on the East Coast; President of the Canadian Atlantic Provinces chapter of NATS, and the President of the Nova Scotia Federation of Provincial Music Festivals. As well as being active as an adjudicator, pedagogue, workshop clinician and performer across the country, she is a proud mom to two very busy boys, nine and six.
Known for his expressive voice of “liquid gold” and the “stage presence of a lion” Peruvian native José Sacin is considered one of the leading South American baritones of our time. He has performed and collaborated with the foremost figures of the opera and music world today including a nationally televised performance for Pope Benedict XVI alongside Placido Domingo at Nationals Stadium in Washington, DC; with Gregory Buchalter of the Metropolitan Opera; the Chilean soprano Veronica Villaroel; American soprano Alessandra Marc, Enrique Ricci and Will Crutchfield. He performed the world premiere of selected passages from the newly discovered version of Verdi's La Forza del Destino with Philip Gossett at the Caramoor International Festival. He has worked with the Washington National Opera, Opera de Lima, Opera Delaware, Baltimore Opera, Opera Camerata of Washington, Caramoor Opera Festival, Opera North, Choral Arts Society of Washington, Mediterranean Opera Studio, Maryland Opera Society, In Series, Opera New Hampshire, Opera NOVA, among others. Main roles include the title roles of Rigoletto, Macbeth, Gianni Schicchi and Don Giovanni, Germont (La Traviata), Tonio (Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria), Figaro (Barber of Seville), Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) and Rodrigo (Don Carlo). Sacin has extensive appearances in Spanish Zarzuelas like El Barberillo de Lavapies, Los Gavilanes, Luisa Fernanda, La Tabernera del Puerto, El Duo de la Africana and Bohemios.
Joseph Regan is a successful singer and voice teacher based in the Mid-Atlantic region making appearances throughout the east coast. A specialist in French Mélodie, Mr. Regan is a deft interpreter of this exquisite art form and is frequently engaged around the region to perform in this capacity. Joseph can be seen on the opera stage where he has performed the roles of Fenton from Verdi’s Falstaff, Tamino from Mozart’s Magic Flute, Jenik from Smetana’s Bartered Bride and many more. Mr. Regan is also an accomplished performer of musical theatre. He has performed Henrik in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Nicely-Nicely Johnson from Loesser’s Guys and Dolls, and has performed a number of cabaret and recital programs dedicated to the style. Additionally, Mr. Regan is well known for his work in the field of oratorio. He has sung Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Rossini, and is particularly notable for his expertise singing Bach. He has performed the St. John Passion solos on multiple occasions and has performed more than a dozen of Bach’s Cantatas. Mr. Regan is also a highly sought after ensemble singer and sings regularly with top choral groups in the region, with whom he has toured much of the Eastern seaboard.
On both opera and concert stages, soprano Thea Tullman Moore has delighted audiences with her “crystalline voice and natural stage presence” (Wall Street Journal). She has sung roles with Chicago Opera Theater, Opera Festival of New Jersey, and Central City Opera, and has been heard in recital at the Ravinia Festival, the Aspen Music Festival, and the Académie musicale de Villecroze in Provence. As part of the Monteverdi series at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, she sang the role of La Musica in Orfeo and was praised by the Chicago Tribune for her “shining vocal grace.” She performed the title role in Seymour Barab’s The Betrothal of Becky Brown at The Actors Institute of New York, The Assistant in Richard Wilson’s Æthelred the Unready at New York City’s Merkin Concert Hall, and the role of Jenny in Phil Hagemann’s Roman Fever at Lincoln Center. Other roles include Poppea in The Coronation of Poppea, Lucia in The Rape of Lucretia, Mademoiselle Silberklang in The Impressario, and Flora in The Turn of the Screw. Thea has been a featured soloist in a number of major oratorio works, including Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, Schubert’s Mass in G, Rutter’s Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. A native of Chicago, she graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Vassar College and received her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music. She is the founder and executive director of Baltimore Musicales.
American baritone Jason Buckwalter is known for his “super-sized characters” (The Sybaritic Singer) and “theatrical fire” (Baltimore City Paper). A native of Landenberg, Pennsylvania, Jason now lives in Baltimore and performs throughout Maryland, Virginia, D.C., Delaware, and Pennsylvania. Equally comfortable in opera, musical theater, oratorio, and song repertoire, he has performed with a wide variety of companies including the Washington National Opera, Maryland Opera, Baltimore Concert Opera, Annapolis Chorale, Young Victorian Theatre Company, and The Figaro Project. Operatic roles include Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Belcore in L’elisir d’amore, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Schaunard and Marcello in La bohème, and Frank and Dr. Falke in Die Fledermaus. Jason performs regularly with Maryland Opera's outreach program, bringing opera to elementary school students and classic musical theater and American standards to senior centers throughout Maryland.
Bass-baritone Jarrod Lee, native of Sylacauga, Alabama, has received rave reviews from D.C. Metro Theater Arts, Opera News, and The Washington Post. This summer, Jarrod made his European debut in concert with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Upcoming performances include Amazing Grace concert presented by Annapolis Opera. Past performances include: The Baron, a Judge, and Señor in Candide with the Washington National Opera, Bailli in Werther with Opera Delaware, Sacristan in Tosca with the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, Bonze in Madama Butterfly with Annapolis Opera, Loud Speaker in Emperor of Atlantis with the In Series, Benoit and Alcindoro in La bohème with the Aspen Music Festival, Paulus and Hlabeni in Lost in the Stars with the Washington National Opera. Jarrod is a 2018 winner of the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition, a semifinalist in the Meistersinger Vocal Competition in Austria, and a 2016 Finalist in the Harlem Opera Theater Vocal Competition. In 2013 Jarrod participated in Renée Fleming’s American Voices at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. As a soloist, Jarrod has performed for President Barack Obama during his visit to Metropolitan A.M.E Church, D.C. In newer works, Jarrod premiered the role of Joe Louis in Shadowboxer: An opera based on the life of Joe Louis by Frank Proto with Maryland Opera Studio, and Jarrod was featured with pianist Dana Kristina-Joi Morgan for In the Smoke of the Sting by Tom Minter, commissioned by Washington National Opera.
Praised for “astounding technical vocal ability, solid song interpretation and stage presence,” soprano Annie Gill continues to gain recognition as a distinctive and versatile artist. Most recently, Annie performed as Soprano Soloist in Verdi’s Requiem in Indiana, PA, as part of the Defiant Requiem Foundation. Annie also sang as Soprano Soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Landon Symphonette last season, and sang the roles of Fräulein Schneider in Cabaret with the Annapolis Shakespeare Company and Serpina in La Serva Padrona with Loudoun Lyric Opera. Recent concert appearances include Soprano Soloist with the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, and Soprano Soloist on composer Garth Baxter’s album Ask the Moon. Past roles include Nedda (Pagliacci), Micaëla (Carmen), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Mimì and Musetta (La bohème), Mabel (The Pirates of Penzance), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), and La Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro) with companies including Opera Camerata of Washington, The In Series, and Opera NOVA. Annie is also a voice-over artist and acts in commercials and television, notably appearing as the “Opera Singer” in the Season 2 Finale of House of Cards. British-American soprano Claire Galloway’s theatricality covers the gamut of “palpable pain” and “splendid, funny moments” (B.I.T.R.). She has performed such roles as Dinah in Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti, Contessa in Le Nozze di Figaro, and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. She has also premiered roles in Jonathan Dove’s Mansfield Park and Frances Pollock’s award-winning opera Stinney, seen in the 2019 Prototype Festival. In past seasons, Ms. Galloway has performed with Baltimore Concert Opera, the Savannah Voice Festival, Bel Cantanti Opera, and Stillpointe Theatre. This summer she will sing Vitellia in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and Blanche in Poulenc’s Les Dialogues des Carmélites. This season she joined Baltimore Musicales in presenting a recital based on the life of Rosa Ponselle at the elegant George Peabody Library. Ms. Galloway is curator of the related exhibit of Ponselle’s own piano, gowns, and photographs at the Peabody Institute, where she currently teaches. An avid recitalist, Ms. Galloway’s innovative programing has resulted in the best attended concert event at the Baltimore War Memorial Arts Initiative in past seasons. A frequent soloist with Concert Artists of Baltimore, Ms. Galloway has also performed concert and oratorio works with Bach in Baltimore, the American Symphony Orchestra, and the Peabody Concert Orchestra.
Praised by The Washington Post as “velvety voiced,” Jason Widney is a versatile performer and pedagogue. A frequent oratorio soloist, he performs regularly with the Washington Bach Consort, making solo appearances in the Noontime Cantata Series as well as singing Christus in the St. John Passion. He has performed as a soloist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio and the Schütz Requiem with New Dominion Chorale and the St. Matthew Passion with Bach in Baltimore. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Handel Choir of Baltimore in Vaughan Williams’ Mass in g minor and Handel’s Messiah, and with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Uematsu’s Distant Worlds: The Music from Final Fantasy. His opera credits include Schaunard in Puccini’s La bohème, Dancaïro in Bizet’s Carmen, and Wagner in Gounod’s Faust with the Baltimore Concert Opera and Don Inigo in Ravel’s L’heure espagnole with the Baltimore Opera Company. Jason is proud to sing in the choir of the Washington National Cathedral where he has performed solos in the Duruflé Requiem and Handel’s Israel in Egypt. Jason performs regularly with a number of professional choral ensembles in the area including Cathedra, Chantry, District 8 and the Bridge Ensemble. He serves on the faculties of Towson University and Goucher College.
Patricia McKewen Amato’s extensive operatic experience includes duties as conductor, coach, and accompanist at the AIMS Institute in Graz, Austria, Brevard Music Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Peabody Institute, Cumberland Valley Chamber Orchestra, and the Young Victorian Theatre. She served as assistant music director of the Baltimore Opera Company and music director of its touring company; music director/conductor for Annapolis Opera, Maryland Lyric Opera, Brevard Music Festival, Opera Americana, Washington Savoyards, Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, and Rep Stage; and assistant conductor/chorus master for Washington Summer Opera and Opera AACC. A versatile pianist, Ms. Amato frequently performs with the Children’s Chorus of Maryland, Annapolis Opera, Annapolis Chorale, Baltimore Choral Arts, Baltimore Symphony, Maryland Symphony, Baltimore Opera, Prince George’s Opera and Philharmonic, Chesapeake Chamber Opera, and Metropolitan Opera regional competitions. She is a coach/accompanist and assistant music director of Music for the Stage at Towson University. She holds a BM from the Catholic University of America (magna cum laude), a MM from the University of Houston (magna cum laude), and certificates in lieder, opera, and chamber music from The American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
Ka Nyoung Yoo has served as a vocal coach and master class pianist for Towson University’s Voice Division and Towson Choir since 2010. She received her Master of Music degree and Graduate Performance Diploma in Ensemble Arts/Vocal Accompanying from The Johns Hopkins University Peabody Institute where she studied with Eileen Cornett. She has performed in master classes for Martin Katz, Graham Johnson, Margo Garrett and Rodger Vignoles. She has been a faculty member of Peabody’s Young Voice Student Summer Workshop since 2010. She is also an active piano teacher and accompanist throughout the Maryland area. Originally from South Korea, Ka Nyoung Yoo began studying piano at age 6. She graduated with honors from Hanyang University in 2004 with her Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance where she studied with Minsuk, Kim and Mikyung, Yoon. She worked as a school pianist and opera accompanist throughout her undergraduate years at Hanyang University and received a merit scholarship for the length of her study there. She holds a Music Education certification for middle/high school students.
