Hakeem Henderson

Hakeem Henderson, a versatile performer, seamlessly navigates a spectrum of musical genres, spanning from Classical to Contemporary pieces. Renowned for his compelling stage presence, Hakeem has taken on diverse roles, embodying characters like Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro and Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods. Other notable performances include Fortunato in The Cask of Amontillado and Big Deal in the 2019 Edinburgh International Festival’s production of West Side Story. A distinguished concert artist, Hakeem has showcased his vocal prowess in works such as Elgar’s Coronation Ode, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, and Dvorak’s Stabat Mater. Notable accolades include being the 3rd Place Winner and Audience Favorite at the Boulder Bach Festival’s 2020 World Bach Competition, the 2016 CAAPA Scholarship recipient, and a Finalist in the 2022 Joyce and Michael Kennedy Award for the Singing of Strauss Competition. Henderson earned his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Morgan State University and a Master’s degree in Performance from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, where he was honored with a Waverley Fund Scholarship, studying under baritone Michael Harper and tenor Thomas Schulze. Currently, Hakeem is a freelance performer in the DMV area and will be a 2024 Gerdine Young Artist at Opera Theatre St. Louis.
