about us

Our Mission:

Baltimore Musicales is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the art of the song recital, providing performance opportunities for outstanding regional artists, and building community through shared musical experiences.

our story

In 2014, as a relative newcomer to Baltimore, I organized our first musicale at the First Christian Church in Roland Park. I wanted to create an opportunity for artists and music lovers to come together in an informal setting to share music and poetry.

Because I couldn’t possibly fit everyone in my living room, these concerts were the next best thing!

Over the last ten years, we have presented more than 100 unique programs of art songs, opera, musical theater, and vocal chamber music throughout Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and Silver Spring, Maryland.

I am proud of the community we have built, and I look forward to continuing this work-–uplifting, inspiring, and connecting people through song.

Reviews

  • “What a lift this hour of music was … five performers with easy, conversational rapport with their audience, stage presence and exquisite voices performed a diverse and energetic program . . . While Moore is furthering the music community in Baltimore, she is also enriching the sense of community in the city.”

    —Kathy Hudson, Baltimore Messenger

  • “Top flight vocalists and accompanists, creative programs, excellent venues, and very reasonable ticket prices combine to make every performance pure pleasure for listeners . . . Kudos to Thea Tullman Moore and her staff for enriching Baltimore's cultural life and making the art song accessible to a wider audience.”

    –Nancy Heneson, audience member

  • “My very first concert several years ago was thrilling. I had no idea there was a group keeping the art song tradition alive. There were selections of songs I had never heard before–and all in a more traditional harmonic language.”

    –Priscilla Huffman, audience member
